Golf

Golf is a game that gives us great pleasure and great pain. It is the original story of the agony and the ecstacy. I made this website so we can share some of our experiences.

For the benefit of anyone who wandered into this website to find out what a golf game is, let me try to explain it. That should not take very long, because the goal of the game is pretty simple.

A player chooses one golf club at a time from several different types kept in a golf bag. The player then uses that club to strike a small round ball. After (hopefully) only a few strokes the ball ends up in a hole in the ground.

That hole is a long distance from the point where the player first hits the ball. At least that’s how it seems to me.

The player who uses the fewest total strokes to sink the ball in the holes of the golf course wins. Golf courses consist of nine holes or eighteen holes. Each golf course is different in size and shape from every other golf course.

Each hole has a unique design. That means no holes have the same distance, hazards and degree of difficulty. A wise player will choose the best club to hit the ball toward the hole, depending on the distance from the hole.

According to the history of golf, the first recorded golf game was back in 1456 or so. It was played at Bruntsfield Links in Edinburgh, Scotland. The game was an immediate hit and has spread throughout the world, even to places where people ought to know better.

Golf also has become a popular spectator sport. That fan interest has allowed some superior players to become professional golfers. There are, of course, far more amateur players.

The famous modern golfers such as Tiger Woods and Annika Sorenstam have helped to make the game even more popular. Due to the large number of golf fans with money, there are many golf sponsors and advertisers promoting the game. Once the exclusive passion of a select few, golf has become a sport with mass appeal.

Playing golf on a regular basis requires a good amount of money. As I mentioned earlier, playing golf requires several different specialized golf clubs. Those golf clubs can be quite expensive. They are stored and carried about the course in a golf bag.

The games requires certain other accessories, such as golf shoes and golf gloves. There also are lines of golf apparel.

You also have the cost of paying for the use of a golf course. A player may pay for an individual round of golf. A player who joins a golf club as a member also will have membership fees and an initiation fee. Players who want to improve their play will pay for golf instruction, golf books and golf videos.

Whatever your level of play, golf allows you to enjoy the great outdoors (unless it’s raining) and get some exercise. You can get more exercise if you walk instead of riding in a golf cart. Oh yeah, that is one more expense.
